Our Story

The Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2015 - USS Ronald Regan - America’s Flagship

At Nuclear Chili Oil, our journey started in mom’s kitchen where she cooked everything from scratch putting her love in food. An element was still missing to spice things up...something fresh, aromatic, and locally created. This is where our chili was born. While serving in the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program, I was intrigued by how a significantly small amount of uranium can create so much power. I experimented with spices and how to create the perfect formula to have this same power…. but in one’s taste buds!

We listened and acted on everyone’s feedback to create Nuclear Chili Oil. It has crispy garlic, shallot, and different levels of spice from ALARA to Criticality. What makes us different is that we offer: a hierarchy of spice level that is unmatched in quality and flavor, but more importantly one that is locally made in the United States and veteran-owned and operated.

Alara

As Low As Reasonably Achievable, economic, and social factors being taken into account. This is the optimisation principle of radiation protection.

Half-Life

The time in which one half of the atoms of a particular radioactive substance disintegrate into another nuclear form. Measured half-lives vary from millionths of a second to billions of years.

Uranium 235

Uranium-235 is a uranium isotope that makes up about 0.72% of natural uranium. It is the only fissile isotope that exists in nature as a primordial nuclide. This means it can sustain a nuclear chain reaction. Uranium-235 has a half-life of 703.8 million years.

Fission

The splitting of an atom, which releases a considerable amount of energy (usually in the form of heat) that can be used to produce electricity.

Criticality

During normal reactor operations, nuclear fuel sustains a fission chain reaction or criticality. A reactor achieves criticality (which is said to be critical) when each fission event releases a sufficient number of neutrons to sustain an ongoing series of reactions.
